About Lorain Drennan

Growing up in Ireland's countryside also helped grow my love for nature. Wandering through the forest fostered an early understanding of the intricate balance and interconnectedness that makes ecosystems resilient and beautiful. Living in balance and working together with nature always felt natural to me. This connection to nature led me on a journey devoted to fostering a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world.

With my degrees in interdisciplinary studies focusing on biodiversity and ecosystems, coupled with policy and economics, I sought to understand and act upon the challenges of our time, especially the complex relationship between people and nature. My professional journey in (marine) nature conservation and community engagement, involved contributing to local and global projects, working with local and international NGOs.

🌿 Turning point

At 29, a burnout forced me to a stop. I slowly realised that, just as in nature, which always seeks a (dynamic) balance between different Yang and Yin aspects, that I simply had been too Yang for too long. This led me to turn inwards, to start rooting down into who I was. Starting with Yin yoga, was one of few ways for me to subtly but significantly start to (re)connect with my true self again. Combining my passion for Yin-styles of Yoga and my joy for teaching, I now also teach Yin, Nidra and Restorative Yoga.
Trying many different tools, techniques and therapies, and many steps later, via a friend I came into contact with two Dutch Elders sharing and guiding through indigenous wisdom. My first conversation with them changed everything; it was different in so many ways, while at the same time felt so familiar, like coming home. Their support and guidance helped re-awaken my wish: to help others to (re)connect with their true selves and nature (including others), through working together with the wisdom of nature. Root & Rise emerged from this, through which I facilitate various ways for reconnection (e.g. coaching, yoga, campfire circles, walks) and also aim to help bridge the gap between indigenous nature wisdom and modern life.

🌿  Commitment

My commitment to my mission for reconnection extends to my on-going training with Danny Vader and Hélène Van Engelen at the Firekeeper Academy, where I continue to deepen my understanding of natural leadership. If I would have a personal motto it would be "together we can create the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible", which is inspired by the words and work of Charles Eisenstein, Danny Vader and Hélène Van Engelen, and others. This encapsulates my belief in the transformative power of collective action rooted in a harmonious relationship with nature. And it all starts with rooting and rising into who you are.
With my diverse skill set, international experience, and unwavering dedication, I hope to inspire others seeking to reconnect with the wisdom of nature and create a sustainable and beautiful world for all life.
